Music is important to humans because it connects to our emotions, brains, culture and social lives in ways few other things can. Music helps people express and process emotions. It can make us feel happy, sad, motivated or relaxed. People often listen to music to match or change their mood. Songs can communicate feelings that can’t be put into words. Different cultures have unique styles, instruments and rhythms.

I interviewed a few people about the importance of music.
Jona Peralta: Why do you think music matters so much to people?
My mom: music brings people together to think about concerts or even just sharing songs with friends; it's something everyone can relate to together.
JP: Do you think music connects to people?
My mom: Yes because it helps people be calmed and it also motivates people and connects with others.
JP: When do you usually listen to music?
Kevin: I usually listen to music when I am really happy or really sad.
JP: Do you think music can bring back memories?
Kevin: I mean I’ve heard a quote about how music is the closest thing we have to a time machine.
JP: Do you think music will always be important to humans?
Danny: Yeah I think music has been around forever and its every part of culture is also one of the easiest ways for people to express themselves.
JP: Why do you think people relate so much to songs?
Danny: A lot of songs talk about real experiences, love and also struggle or success. When people listen to music they think about their own life.
According to a study with the National Library of Medicine, ‘’Music is a crucial element of everyday life and plays a central role in all human cultures: it is omnipresent and is listened to and played by persons of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds. But music is not simply entertainment: scientific research has shown that it can influence physiological processes that enhance physical and mental wellbeing.’’
According to the Mayo Clinic.’’Music also is one of the most accessible tools for opening discussions about emotions and difficult life experiences. That’s one of the reasons why music therapists are available in many hospital settings.’’
