The Pros and Cons of Maduro

Nicolas Maduro - for some the worst, for some a hero.

Maduro was captured January 3rd 2026 in Caracas, Venezuela by US forces. Maduro was captured because he managed to help and lead the cartel of the Suns, a venezuelan drug trafficking organization. Even though he was doing wrong there are still people who support him, like the people who still have power in Venezuela.

To get different points of view I interviewed some staff and a student from Forsyth Satellite Academy, Nick, a Social Studies Teacher, said, “Maduro being captured is not a good thing, U.S. and Trump just want resources and take advantage of Venezuela they are doing it for their own good and Venezuela should be for Venezuelans.”

Margarita also teaches Social Studies said, “I see the U.S. being NOSEY in political problems in other countries that don't benefit us, and only doing it for money, egoism, to try and be THE GREAT WORLD POWER and doing something that doesn't benefit Venezuela, doesn't benefit US and doesn’t benefit Latin America."

Kyl, a student, gave his opinion on the matter and said, “I believe that Maduro essentially being kidnapped out of his country was a GROSS violation of many laws and what not. I haven't been caught up to the situation but if he's not free, free him.”

According to a New York Times article, on November 18th 2025 Trump accused Mr. Maduro of being, “the leader of the designated narcoterrorist organization Cartel de los Soles.” and responsible for, “trafficking drugs into the United States and Europe.”  They also explained the operation in more detail: ”More than 150 military aircraft, including drones, fighter planes and bombers, took part in the mission, taking off from 20 different military bases and Navy ships.”

As of right now Maduro is still in Prison waiting for his trial later in March. According to the BBC, the current Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez is opening their Venezuela's sector to the US. Delcy Rodriguez and US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum have declared that the two countries will be working together.
